Obviously, as with other types of Medaka, their coloration can vary slightly depending on the environment and conditions in which they are found. In a closed environment the color is more delicate, while outdoors in sunlight it is much more decisive and showy. If they are purchased online, the fish lose their color upon delivery as they are shipped in the dark, and in a few days the color will return to normal.
Medaka, also called rice field fish, are small freshwater fish belonging to the Adrianichthyidae family of Asian-Japanese origin. Their scientific name is Oryzias Latipes.
Their maximum length can reach approximately 3 cm. They adapt well to any situation, even in shallow water.
They reproduce easily, the female produces eggs attached to her body which are fertilized by the male, the fertilized eggs are then attached by the female to the submerged plants and will hatch in 10-15 days.
A medaka lives about 2-3 years, which is why they reproduce a lot.
They do not require particular nutrition, in a balanced tank they find the food necessary for survival, but if desired it is possible to feed them only with finely chopped goldfish food.
Be careful that by giving them food they could become lazy and not prey on any mosquito larvae present in the tank.
