This aquatic plant boasts truly unique blooms: large, measuring approximately 15 centimeters (6 inches) across, the flowers take on a captivating cup-like form, reminiscent of a chalice. Their deep purple hue is intensely eye-catching. However, the most distinctive feature lies in the petals themselves: unlike the smooth, flat petals of many other water lilies, these are delicately crinkled and almost curled, strikingly similar to a spider's legs—hence the evocative name "Tarantula." Abundant in number, with 30 to 35 petals per bloom, they create a breathtaking, three-dimensional display.

Add a touch of exoticism and wonder to your water garden with the 'Tarantula' tropical water lily, a truly unique variety. This water lily is distinguished by the spectacular beauty of its flowers and the original coloration of its leaves, creating a striking focal point.
The 'Tarantula' flowers are a real spectacle: large, with a diameter of about 15 cm (6 inches), they open in an elegant cup shape, displaying an intense purple color that captures the eye. But the real peculiarity lies in the shape of the petals: slightly crinkled and curled, they resemble the legs of a spider, hence the evocative name of this variety. These numerous petals (between 30 and 35 per flower) create a three-dimensional and dynamic effect, offering a fascinating display that lasts throughout the season. The flowers do not remain at water level but rise on sturdy stems, which lift them between 40 and 50 cm (16-20 inches) above the water's surface, allowing you to admire them in all their beauty.
The leaves also contribute to the uniqueness of this water lily. Large, with a round-oval shape (approximately 25x23 cm or 10x9 inches), they present an interesting color contrast: the upper part is a bright green with a hint of yellow, while the lower part reveals a delicate purple color. This two-tone effect makes the 'Tarantula' attractive even when it is not in bloom.
This variety originated from a cross between a water lily called Nymphaea carpentariae, a variety with intense blue flowers, and another plant whose name is unknown, obtained through open pollination. This hybrid was created by Professor Miguel Castillo, Tomás Escribano, and Surapol Wirapong in 2015, while the official registration of the variety took place in 2020 under the name of Surapol Wirapong. In short, the 'Tarantula' water lily is a plant that captures attention for the beauty and originality of its deep purple flowers and its two-tone leaves, a true jewel for any pond.
