The Nymphaea King of Siam was hybridized by Chaiyapon Tong Tamasuwan, a renowned Thai hybridizer, in 1998. This variety is the result of years of selection and crossing to obtain a water lily with unique and desirable characteristics.

Main Features

Flowers: The flowers of the Nymphaea King of Siam are of an intense bluish-violet, with a diameter that can reach 15-18 cm. The petals are wide and well formed, with an elegant and regal appearance. The flowers rise above the water, clearly visible and fragrant.   

Leaves: The leaves are bright green in color, with a round shape and a diameter of about 25-30 cm. Young leaves may have reddish hues, which disappear with maturity.

Bearing: The Nymphaea King of Siam is a compact plant, suitable even for medium-sized ponds. It can cover an area of about 1-1.5 square meters.

Flowering: Flowering is abundant and prolonged, from June to November. The flowers open during the day and close at night.

Scent: The scent is intense and sweet, with floral and slightly spicy notes.

Cultivation

The Nymphaea King of Siam is a tropical plant, so it requires warm temperatures and good exposure to the sun to bloom at its best. Here are some tips for cultivation:   

Location: Choose a sunny place, with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.

Depth: The ideal depth for cultivation is between 30 and 50 cm.

Substrate: Use a specific soil for aquatic plants, rich in organic matter.

Fertilization: During the growing season, you can use pondtabbs, a specific fertilizer for water lilies, to promote flowering.   

Pruning: Remove wilted leaves and flowers to keep the plant clean and encourage the production of new flowers.
