Characteristics and comments: A recent hybrid (2024) originating from Thailand. It stands out for the abundance of its petals and the colour gradient (‘highlight’) between the outer and inner parts of the flower, creating a truly striking visual effect.
Hybridised in 2024 by Pairote Thongnoom, Nymphaea ‘Highlights’ is a medium-sized variety that captivates with the geometric perfection and brilliance of its corolla.
The Flower: The flower is decidedly abundant in petals and features a classic, symmetrical star-shaped form, rising slightly above the water’s surface. The colouring is vivid and nuanced: the outer petals display a very saturated and deep magenta/fuchsia pink hue, whilst as one moves towards the tips of the inner petals, the colour gently lightens to soft pink and cream shades, creating a truly unique ‘illuminated’ effect. At the centre, the ring of bright golden-yellow stamens provides a vibrant core of light.
The Foliage: The leaves are rounded and well-proportioned, with a bright green colour on mature leaves and brown-purple hues on younger ones. The foliage forms a uniform, neat green carpet, perfect for highlighting the vibrancy of the flowers by contrast.
