Created in 2020 by the renowned Thai hybridiser Pornchai Sukkasemramranjit, Nymphaea ‘Supernova’ is one of the most impressive and spectacular hardy varieties ever introduced to the international botanical scene.
The Flower: The flower is extraordinarily rich in petals, with a dense, multi-petalled structure reminiscent of a dahlia or peony, densely layered and perfectly symmetrical. The colour ranges from a bright, vivid pink in the early stages of opening to softer, more luminous candy-pink shades in the days that follow. At the centre, the corolla encloses a compact heart of warm yellow-orange stamens that lend depth and luminosity to the impressive flower.
The Foliage: The leaves are very large and form a broad, lush canopy. Young leaves display a distinct, glossy chocolate-brown hue, whilst mature leaves turn a deep olive green. The contrast between the emerging bronze leaves and the mature green ones creates the perfect backdrop for the large pink corollas.
