An imposing, sumptuous hardy waterlily with large bright pink goblet-shaped flowers and extraordinary vigour. A spectacular cultivar created to dominate and enhance medium to large ponds or natural basins with dense, dramatic flowering.
Created by the German hybridiser Erhard Oldehoff in Hauzenberg, the Nymphaea 'Schöne Hildegard' (“The beautiful Hildegard”) lives fully up to its name thanks to the opulence and perfect symmetry of its flowers.

The flower: remarkably large and well proportioned, the flower has a rich cup/peony shape, densely layered with numerous broad, rounded petals. The colouring is a vibrant, intense pink, warm and luminous, which fades gently to softer sugar-pink tones on the outer petals most exposed to the sun. In the centre of the corolla stands out a sumptuous heart of very dense golden yellow-orange stamens, which give depth and warmth to the flowering.
The foliage: the leaves are broad, fleshy and rounded, with slightly wavy edges. The colouring shows an elegant contrast: the young leaves emerge in decided chocolate-brown and purple tones, then gradually turn with maturity to a deep, waxy olive green. The growth habit is vigorous and spreading, able to create a generous, even leaf cover on the water.
Water plant growing tip: given the high vegetative vigour and imposing size of this waterlily, use a very roomy basket (at least 35-40 cm in diameter) filled with heavy, clayey soil. To support such a robust plant and stimulate the continuous production of extra-large flowers throughout the warm season, regularly enrich the substrate by pushing Pondtabbs tablets (available directly on our site) deep into the soil, in contact with the main roots.
